The movies of 2009 - part 2

Continued from part 1...

But lest you believe every movie in 2009 will only be a sequel, video game, or comic book here are some of the better, and worse, things to look forward to. Some of these I have discussed in more detail previously.

2012 Doomsday
The world will end. And the Mayans knew it thousands of years ago.

And on that theme is Seeking Closure. A very different style of movie, and indie at that.

And then just 2012

Yes there will be a lot of these films in the coming years.

And on that same theme is Know1ng with Nicolas Cage. Kind of like NEXT but on a different level.

And of course I think that The Wave will be interesting on several levels. While technically a remake of a TV movie, I separate it. Based on fact. It could happen again today. Some hope it will

And of course at the bottom of the heap is Notorious. Avoid this glorification of a life wasted. It's just not worth the time. And yet I am sure that it will be in every inner city, and make all it's money back and then some. Shame.

Sir I have to say sadly you dson't know a thing about movies a good number of your tailers are fake, and not the ones that you claimed were. Star Terk will do just because if you had did your home work for the movie you would know that it is not a Prequel. In Fact Lenord Nemoy himself is in the movie. secound the comicbook movies and cartoon movies are all movies because it is what the fans want to see. You can't base your knowlege of movies on trailers you have to know about them too. how dear you say BIGs life was a weast of time. Because of him young black children grew up to be better then what they thought they could, I'm saying that and I don't even like rap music. Do the world a favor don't Review any more movies until you actaully get your information first.

Anonymous,

Ok, besides the immediate need of a spellcheck I need to ask a question. What movie trailer is fake?

You accuse me of creating a falsehood but fail to back up that accusation with proof. That is sad and insulting, which I suppose was your intent. But as I stated in my posts, I am attempting to provide what I believe is the accurate trailers, if I am incorrect do tell me what is wrong and where my readers can find the actual verified trailer. So far, in years of discussing movies I have not missed yet.

Going on, I actually know more about making a movie than you might imagine. While I am no director, I have done some work in creating movies. Given that they were small independent films, but still movies all the same.

Also I ask you to check your dictionary on the definition of prequel. Star Trek, the latest film, is a telling of the beginnings of the crew from the 1960 television show. Since this is part of a series of films, and telling the origins of the characters that already exist, it is a prequel. The fact that any of the original series stars appear in the upcoming movie is irrelevant.

As for the trend of conversion movies going from comic books and graphic novels to movies, it is not about fan interest. Yes many fans wish to see these conversions, I want to see several of them. But that does not take away from the overall trend of Hollywood being lazy. With remakes in huge numbers, revisions of television shows, and blatant copies of British television programs the trend is not to original ideas. In fact the trend is anything but originality overall. Which is a dreary response of movie studios.

And you make a baseless and inaccurate claim. You can judge a movie based on it's trailer. That is in fact why movie trailers exists. To motivate you with a piece of a storyline to go see a film. So if this eyecandy is sour, the film is likely to be so as well. If you know the actual storyline, which I discuss for several films in depth, that will only add to or detract from the depiction the trailer provides.

Before I discuss Mr. Wallace, I suggest you take a look at my Previews and Reviews. I do both, and they are not the same. If you did your homework you would notice this. Or was that yet another example of either laziness with respect to spellcheck, or a demonstrative lack of education?

Now as for BIG. He was a drug dealer. To all knowledge and information I have noted he was unrepentant about selling drugs to kids. Kids on drugs die, some immediately some over years. I have no pity and wish no glory to someone who kills children.

Going further you say that African Americans were helped by BIG. How? Did he teach anyone how to read and write english? Did he help anyone get skills that would provide them jobs? Did he fund tuitions to colleges or promote higher learning? Did he say or fund any program that seeks to cure AIDS, detox drug addicts, buy books for schools, teach trade skills, reduce violence in any community, or otherwise increase the good of any community? No, he did not as far as my research has shown. If I am wrong please do correct me with fact.

Before you spout some idiotic rhetoric about the greatness of this one man, who did nothing but entertain and promote violence, know about what you speak. Bill Cosby is an inspiration, as is Spike Lee, Will Smith, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Freddy Prinze, Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington, Samuel Jackson, and a host of other entertainers. They all achieved success, not one of which sold drugs. Not one of which promoted gang violence. And virtually all of them came from poor homes and/or grew up during times in America where integration and opportunity for African Americans were not nearly as easy as it is today. And almost all of them gave back to the community, promoted education and hard work.

BIG did none of these things. He was a drug dealer that got lucky, and was able to sell himself to a record company. They pimped him like they do most rappers. He sold their view of African Americans, and raked in cash for them while poisoning future generations with the thought that violence and illegality are the only means of success for African Americans. That deserves no glory. He may have been a nice guy to his friends and family, but he does not deserve a movie.

Lastly, if you do not agree with my previews or reviews of movies, go see the films. Like any movie critic some will disagree with me. I don't mind.

But do not dare try to insult or impugn my work. I stand by my reviews and previews. I stand by the facts I present and the sources that I use to verify what I say. And if I get something wrong, which can happen, then I only ask that I get verifiable corrections. And that commentors at least provide an effort to spellcheck so I can understand completely what is being said.

If you want to attack me, do yourself a favor first. Go back to school and learn english. Then read and check the facts about what you wish to insult me about. And learn or copy some proper insults. Because it's no fun beating on the defenseless.
