I watched the 6 episode run of the Blade series. The cable network original series has definitely improved over the series opener. Several thoughts seem to have been correct, while on others I completely missed. Overall the development of the storyline and characters is interesting and highly watchable. It’s obvious at a glance that there is a deep storyline behind the entire series.
I’m glad that Mr. Kirk Jones has improved in the lead role. He has become more confident in his portrayal, and is making Blade his own. Where I found him very stiff in the opener, Mr. Jones is now more relaxed. He has captured more of the menacing and ultra-determined essence that make Blade the feared creature he is. There is room for improvement, and a lot of it, but there has been an improvement. The fight sequences need a lot of work though. It appears that Mr. Jones is not a martial artist, or if so not a highly ranked one. The moves are sloppy and choppy. Most are repeated in each sequence. Hopefully that will improve as the show continues as well.
Krista, as done by Ms. Jill Wagner, has also grown. We can feel her conflict, in a new world that she despises and at the same time is drawn deeper into in each episode and consequence of her decisions. Her urges to satiate the thirst, and her struggle to just have the serum feels like a difficult choice. Her alliance with Blade, and dependance to Marcus is a fine line indeed.
Marcus is quite the schemer, as played by Mr. Neil Jackson. His eyes and demeanor seem to drift as if he is looking 5 paces into the future in every scene. This is not a bad thing. It gives his character an appeal that the more classic villains have. Kind of like Moriarty. His plans, both for Cython and his own are subtle and intricate. I wish they were just a bit more detailed though.
There is a lot going on in this series. There are loose ends waiting to pop up and create problems for everyone. Blade has his vampire progeny, determined to like him and move up in the vampire societal ranks. Mr. Bokeem Woodbine gave that character, and the insight to the youthful past of ‘Little Man’, a nice edge. I look forward to seeing him again. Chase’s ex-husband (formerly a Neitzcheans from the series Andromeda) and his knowledge that Krista isn’t drinking blood could be a help or a massive hindrance. And how much of Chase’s past was real in that meeting?
While I would have enjoyed seeing the Lycans being lycanthropes, the fact that they are essentially monks is different. I like how the other houses are being brought in. That there many be many more than just 12, each with its own history and traditions, and enemies. The Arami seem to be Slavic in origin and quite angry with House Cython. The deep plots within and of House Cython are unique and fitting people that can live centuries.
There are things in this series that most anyone can grab onto and become a fan for. Whether its trying to anticipate the various plot twists, or learning more of the background history, or following the various character there is a lot that works in the series.
Of course there are problems too. The Fritz character could have been interesting, especially if Aurora doesn’t work. How the cop Boone knows so much on different houses seems odd. There still is no answer why purebloods are so feared and respected, or even created. The trust and need that Marcus has for Krista doesn’t make sense. Most of the secondary plot arcs are barely touched on in each episode, I mean you tend to basically get one or 2 cryptic sentences on a sub-plot and then that’s it.
Even so I like it and am interested in seeing where the story goes.

Mel Gibson, strip poker, MTV and Harold Scott
It’s been reported that Mr. Mel Gibson was arrested early this morning. The reason was because he was suspected to be driving while intoxicated, or DUI. While I am a fan of Mr. Gibson and his many films (including the Mad Max series, Maverick, Tequila Sunrise and others) this is a separate matter. Drunk driving is no small matter. But of equal importance to me is the though of how this will be handled. Given the fact that Mr. Gibson is one of, if not the, most powerful individuals in movies at this time and how kid gloves are often applied to entertainers in such matters, I wonder what will happen.
Now as you may recall, I spoke about the treatment that Ms. Michelle Rodriguez received for her multiple infractions. The very short trip to jail was nowhere near the type of punishment I or others would receive. But it may have been a factor in the loss of her work on a television program. And she did spend time in jail. If Mr. Gibson is guilty, which is currently in question, then I would like to see him punished at least equally to lesser actors and actresses. Especially those that are African American or other minorities. And if he is innocent of the charges then the matter should be dropped without further comment. Never both, ie guilty and the matter brushed aside.
In a less important matter that caught my eye, poker has gone to a new extreme. To say this is eye raising is the least. Now I don’t mind losing my money in a poker game (doesn’t happen too often though) losing my shirt, in a group of strangers and possibly a crowd of onlookers is another thing. I’m referring to the up-coming World Strip Poker Championship. The 200 players will earn a place in the Guiness Book of Records, and possibly some money. I just can’t imagine the competition.
Then again I may not want to. It’s one thing to have a poker face, but a poker body? And there may be some distractions that can’t be disregarded. That could prove to be embarrassing. I wonder how many dates will be started because of this? And if you are a total ice player, does that improve or detract from the future dating potential.
And for those who are into voyeurism a minor victory. It seems that the Girls Gone Wild tapes confiscated in a search related to the taping of under-age girls have been released. Whatever the legalities of the case, I have a different thought. Why in the world would any woman do this? This isn’t a private video made by sober consenting adults for their pleasure. I mean what is the benefit? Yes there has always been porn. And no this isn’t hardcore, or at least it appears not from the commercials that are on every evening. Still it has no value, and provides nothing for the women in them. I just don’t get it.
Other minor news out is that MTV is reaching out to the internet to better compete and retain its viewers. I would suggest something to MTV that may seem obvious, play music videos. Perhaps I’m jaded as I recall when music videos first hit the airwaves. I recall the fledgling upstart Music Television. That was a time when music videos were innovative, trying various ideas and effects. Some things worked, many didn’t. But at any point you could turn on the cable channel and see a rotation of music videos. Of course at the start it was the same couple of hours of video, and all rock bands. But eventually they expanded the line up, and put more videos on - and then finally recognized rap as existing too.
Of course if you look at MTV now you’d wonder what made them pick their name. They have more crap shows (my opinion) than anything else. Road Rules, the Real Life (the first was cute, none are anything close to real) and all the rest. When do they actually play videos. The internet doesn’t help when you don’t follow your core business. At least that’s what I’ve learned.
And sadly Mr. Harold Scott passed recently. Mr. Scott was the first Black African American to head a major regional theatre, an Obie Award winning actor (for Deathwatch), the producer of The Mighty Gents (which Mr. Morgan Freeman won a Tony Award for), and directed Mr. Avery Brooks in Paul Robeson. Through the late 50's to the 90's Mr. Scott had a an influence on movies and plays. He passed at the age of 60. Far too young, and a loss that will be felt.

Congress quotes, Alicia Keys and HIV/AIDS, and 9/11
Score one for Stephen Colbert. I’ve mentioned the Stephen Colbert Report before, and it still is quite the funny show. The truthiness of the program must be seen to be appreciated. But one of the common features of the show, interviews with Congressmen and women throughout the nation (yes he intends to interview each one) recently got extra attention. If you haven’t seen the Comedy Central cable network program, the interviews are more improv than actual questions. Questions can be virtually on any subject, only remotely touching on the Congressman/woman. Often the representatives are taken at a loss, some who have seen the program go along with the less than serious nature of the questions. Democratic Rep. Robert Wexler got the joke but perhaps his constituents don’t. I think more of them need to see the program because it is obvious that his reply about cocaine, “I enjoy cocaine because it’s a fun thing to do”, was only as serious as the interviewer. At least we would hope. I think more people need to pay attention to the source of the soundbite and not just the words. Context is everything. And sometimes fun is fun.
On a more serious note is the opening ceremonies for the International Aids Conference in Toronto coming up in August. Tickets are available to the public, with performers that include Ms. Alicia Keys, Barenaked Ladies, and Ms. Amanda Marshall. Other participants include Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gates, and former President Bill Clinton. Funds from these ceremonies will be donated to further research for HIV/AIDS. Now this sounds like something to see. You have to love a program that provides quality entertainment and dignitaries while benefitting individuals in need. If you can make it there, get me an autograph or photo please.
Another event that is benefitting individuals in need is the upcoming movie World Trade Center. This movie details 9/11, and has Mr. Nicholas Cage and Mr. Michael Pena in the roles of true life police officers rescued from the rubble. I’ve seen a few of the television commercial promotions for the movie and it moves me. I think this will be quite an emotional movie, especially for New Yorkers that were in the city or in the area of the Twin Towers. It was a crazy day, filled with fear, and worry for loved ones, and loss. Of the thousands that I passed on the streets that day, I think we were all in shock. If the movie conveys one-tenth that intensity and feeling I think it will be awe-inspiring. I want to see it, though I don’t know if I can handle it. But as I started mentioning, 10% of the proceeds of the first 5 days (historically the days it will make the most money) will be donated to various September 11 charities. What other reason do you need to see this movie?

Anticipating movies and gifts from the heart
In recent events a few things have been interesting. One thing I noticed is that Ms. Janet Jackson has given her fans a chance to create the cover of her next album 20 Years Old. Ms. Jackson has made available 33 images and will pick 4 finalists. This is a great opportunity for any up and coming artist or even just a fan of Ms. Jackson. Were I more artistic I’d definitely give it a go. I can only imagine what visions may be made, and with Ms. Jackson picking finalists we can be somewhat sure that an artistic vision will be the cover as opposed to some corporate ideal.
Moving from albums to movies, Mr. Ryan Reynolds has accepted a role in the upcoming movie Definitely, Maybe. I’m looking forward to the movie as I think Mr. Reynolds is a very talented actor. In terms of comedy he is quite funny, especially the movie National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. Not a deep movie, but fun and the creme-filled donuts scene is simultaneously violently sickening and incredibly hilarious. One of those moments so rude and funny you just can’t stop watching. His work in Blade 3, was solid and credible. And if you get lucky you can see reruns of his television show 2 Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Shop. I’m a fan, and he has done other work, but I think if you see the above you will be a fan as well.
There has been other movie news that I’m looking forward to. Mr. Kurt Russell, of The Strongest Teenager in the World fame (those who are younger will recall his work in Escape from New York or 3000 Miles to Graceland more readily) will be working on the next film by noted director Mr. Quentin Tarantino. The film itself is something to look out for as its 2 movies in on. An entire film by Mr. Robert Rodriguez (of the films Spy Kids, From Dusk Til Dawn and Sin City) will be combined with a complete one by Mr. Tarantino. Considering the visionary scope and uniqueness of both director’s films it should be quite the experience. The addition of the versatile and capable Mr. Russell definitely cranks up my anticipation a notch. Fans of Ms. Rosario Dawson, Mr. Michael Biehn (Terminator), Mr. Jeff Fahey and Ms. Rose McGowen should also be looking for this release.
Another actor that is in the news is Mr. Matthew McConaughey. I’ve mentioned before that I love it when entertainers stand up and do something without benefit for themselves. I’ve talked about Mr. George Clooney, and Mr. Samuel Jackson previously and I think what Mr. McConaughey is doing is just as vital. It seems that Mr. McConaughey owned a 1971 Corvette Stingray that he put quite a few miles on, and was important enough to name (Mako). To help those suffering not only from Hurricane Katrina but also Hurricane Rita, he has placed the vehicle on Ebay. The proceeds going to Oprah’s Angel Network. While the money and the car are both solid statements of his convictions, I find the personal nature of his choice to be the biggest statement. To give something that has personal meaning for the benefit of others is admirable. And hopefully it will inspire others to help those in need.

latest poerty by Mike Vass
Just wanted to share another poem. It will be in the poetry section shortly.
Also keep an eye out for new poetry, audio and a new section where various artists take my poetry and turn them into songs.
If there are other musicians out there that have an interest in doing the same, please contact me for details.
When I sit back, alone & in the dark
my mind floats to happy thoughts
images of your stunning eyes
the flow of your strong curves
and I remember the wit of your mind
Unrequited as I am
there is no pain
To see your smile
To hear your laugh
To know you are well
Are all I need
Love of a friend
is still love itself
When I sit back, alone...
And in the dark

Michael Vass press release
(PRWEB) August 1, 2007 -- Mr. Michael Vass, owner and author of Black Entertainment USA (blackentertainmentblog.com), announced that several milestones have been reached today. Since the official launch of the website in January 2006, there have been more than 100 postings published. Topics of the various posts range from discussions on the impact of Black African American cultural trends in television, theatrical movies, music videos, video games and other media to athletes, musicians, actors and other entertainers/celebrities in the news to international competitions.
The website has also expanded its unique format, a blend of a weblog (known as blogs) and traditional website. The site currently boasts a collection of original poetry, audio files of selected poems, an expanded reference section, archives of older posts, and a growing catalogue of unique inscribed products. All poetry and spoken word audio are the creation of Mr. Vass. While the various items available through the site are the original inspiration of Mr. Vass, designs rendered with separate artistic views are also available. Those goods feature the name of the artist prominently in its description. Plans to expand the number of goods and artists continue to move forward at this time.
Mr. Vass also states, The acceptance and interest in Black Entertainment USA have been phenomenal. Feedback and comments on various post topics have been informative, lively, and gratifying. The diversity of readers and comments reflects the diversity found in the Black African-American community today. The fact that Hispanics, Asians and multiple other races and ethnic groups from around the world have been involved with this site as well, confirms my belief that the concerns of one culture are very similar to every culture.
In relation to the growing consumer line Mr. Vass reveals, One goal I have is to showcase the designs and reinterpretations of my products from the minds of up-and-coming artists and fashion designers. I want to display the diversity of this site to the world through their creations. Hopefully I will be able to create a launchpad for future success. I feel its not enough to discuss what is happening but to try to promote positive individuals making things happen. If a T-shirt or handbag, or gift card is the vehicle that can get that ball rolling, the effort is worth it.
For additional information on this release, comments on this article, or general site information contact Mr. Michael Vass or visit BlackEntertainmentBlog.com. Comments on any posts should be added to the appropriate comments section on the site.

EUReKA, its a show worth watching on SciFi
So there really is original programming on the SciFi channel. Now I have been quite upset with this cable network since they cancelled Farscape (right after they made a deal for an additional season). SciFi is know for their consistency in ripping off bad ideas, and cancelling good programs at the drop of a hat. Since being acquired by NBC (the fun people that haven’t had an original idea in a decade - Friends was a rip-off of a BBC program) there has been no real improvement. Scare Tactics is not sci-fi. ECW is not sci-fi. The ‘revisioned’ Battlestar Galactica would be better if it were named something else cause it does not evoke thoughts of the show it is named for, nor does it homage the themes of the original.
The SciFi channel has never really gotten its target core audience. Black Scorpion was ridiculous. Lexx was just too weird to me. The Invisible Man was intelligent and dropped like a hot potato. Farscape being cancelled cause such an outcry that (at least 3 of my posts) posts to their website in protest were either deleted or edited, and it crashed for the first 3 days after the announcement (right after the 4th season ending episode) several times. The execs at the channel have always seemed to think that fans of the genre will accept anything if it has a unique name or non-mainstream theme (Ghosthunters, the guy who ‘speaks to the dead’, the couple who discuss dreams) regardless how lame it is or how little it has to do with sci-fi. And the fact that a cable network that cried how little money they had spent tons to get the tired Stargate SG-1 series, and then started a slew of horrendous ‘original’ movies based on bad sci-fi movies (The Core was a direct rip of Deep Core which sucked anyway) or 1950's movies (giant animals - huge snakes, spiders, etc.) and 1970's disaster films (global killer hurricanes). You get the idea. Really no reason to watch the channel and I had long wished them off-air.
But finally there is a something worth seeing. Unlike the way too hyped Stargate spin-offs or the terribly ‘revisioned’ Galactica, the execs slipped and let an actually original program on-air. EUReKA is a nice breath of fresh air. It has decent actors, a plot (given there are some huge plot gaps) and a connection to sci-fi. The execs must have been drunk when the ok’d this.
The concept that there is a place filled with the best and brightest in this nation is in the realm or reality. That they have and are producing innovations that advances the world technology is unique. They have a bit of a soap opera feel, in that everyone is multi-purposed. The hooker/bed and breakfast owner/psych-analyst. The space shuttle engineer/car mechanic. The major/sheriff. The Department of Defense agent/mom. And it goes on. The fact that the Marshall is our eyes in this crazy place, and that he is a troubled single dad with a potential square of lady interests (the DOD agent, Deputy Lupo, the hooker/spy) doesn’t hurt. There is potential for a lot of things to happen in the story line.
I LOVE the fact that there are Black African Americans and Latinos in EUReKA. It’s been so long since there has been a show where most any minority group is shown as intelligent contributors to the program. I don’t recall where such a character was a main character. [If you do please tell me the show and what years it was on] Even the young Black African Latino American boy is a genius. And the characters have flaws, like the boy previously mentioned is autistic - known in the past as an ‘idiot savant’. These elements give the show a bit of a feel of credibility, of reality, that just isn’t on the airwaves today. And they attempt to be intelligent about it. They don’t pander to the audience explaining every little thing, because they get that the American public is intelligent enough to understand concepts a bit higher grade than elementary school (ie. ER or CSI versus Friends or The Simpsons).
Still they should work on the science a bit. A rift created by tachyons that creates in essence temporal bubbles that ages objects over a thousand years would not separate an object and move it relative to the earths motion. There are 2 very different concepts at work there. Nor would that effect cauterize a wound. And why the effect moves, randomly yet in conjunction with the spin of the Earth, yet is localized on this one town also makes no sense. But perhaps I ask for too much? And with any decent sci-fi there are some things that have to be accepted. At least in this case its not a bitter pill to swallow.
I doubt the program will make it more than a season or 2. I would expect it to be cancelled mid-season down the line. That is what the SciFi channel has consistently done. So when I say its worth watching, keep in mind you may get left with many unanswered questions down the line. It’s not the fault of the cast, crew, or writers. Blame the execs. Yet given that probability I think its work watching.
Hey where else will you see Black African American, Hispanic, minority men and women that are highly intelligent and in positions of some amount of power? Where else can you find those same type of characters in main roles? Where else are they the good guys? I wouldn’t watch with that as my main reason, but it’s a great bonus when you can get it.
This is what I think, what do you think?

French tv first, Spike Lee, Law And Order: CI
Here is a surprise. In the 21st century, in a ‘first-world’ nation, known for it’s liberal policies, a black man will present the evening news. It may not sound like a big deal here in the United States, or in Britain, but for France it’s made headlines. This is a first for the primary and most popular news program in that nation. And that is a sad thing to say.
In a nation where vacations can last a month and war is contested, where strikes against harsh violent regimes are not supported [Back in the 80's as I recall, France refused America’s request to fly thru their airspace to make a bombing attack on Libyan leader Quadafi], and many ‘minorities’ comprise the populace this is a first. I’m not sure what that says. And defending that stance by mentioning that 6% of the staff are minorities is hardly justification. It’s estimated that 14% of that nation is non-french in origin. I’m not sure how many are non-caucasians. And it took riots of the “visible minorities” (as stated by French President Jacques Chirac) to get the changes made. It’s sad that it took this long to do such a simple thing I think. Not that the situation in America could not use improvement too.
Another surprise announcement is that Mr. Courtney B. Vance will no longer be part of Law and Order: Criminal Intent. The show is quite good, and I enjoy it a great deal. I find that the work of Mr. Vincent D’Onofrio and Ms. Kathryn Erbe is well matched with that of Mr. Vance. In 5 seasons there have been no changes to the television program, except to add cast members. But the sixth season will be seeing the exit of Mr. Vance and Ms. Nona Gaye will be stepping into his shoes. Ms. Gaye has done well in movies like Ali and Crash (most any career in acting will contain a XXX: State of the Union or 2) so I think she will be a good replacement. But I would have preferred if Mr. Vance had stayed. Hopefully Mr. Vance will be around in a new program or better yet a few more movies. His movie career includes Space Cowboys, the remake of 12 Angry Men [well done but not as good as the original] and the well-done Tuskegee Airmen (HBO as I recall). He deserves more time in front of the camera. But would you expect less from a Harvard graduate?
Speaking about college graduates and HBO, Mr. Spike Lee will be presenting a program that has New Orleans as its subject. I’m sure that Mr. Lee will have little positive to say about FEMA, and deservedly so. But more important is the fact that Mr. Lee will be projecting the spirit of the people and their will to re-build and survive. I think that that celebration of the human spirit will be the best part of what he has made. And if those in the government get a kick in the pants, perhaps no one else will have to go thru the unneeded insanity we saw displayed after Hurricane Katrina. Anything that prevents that is a good thing. The fact that it will show how strong people with good hearts continuing after all that has happened should be an inspiration to us all.

A Blackplanet poll
Some time ago I wrote on a subject that I found important. It was the proliferation of the word –---. The full post can be seen at More old thoughts. In that post I commented on how many rappers, entertainers, and celebrities use this word casually when in the public eye and refuse to have it spoken in their homes. That they maintain a duality is an example of the problem with this term. It’s power is undeterred, undiminished by its use in casual conversation or it’s mispronunciation. It’s definition remains the potentially single most offensive term in the English language.
I say all that because of a poll I saw recently. The poll is part of the weekly rotation of polls found on Blackplanet.com. This particular one ‘Who should be able to use the N-word’ has over 15,068 responses. What I found unique is that while 51% thought no one should ever use the term, 28% thought only Black African Americans should be able. Even more startling was that 16% chose the option that they can’t say a sentence without it, and remarkably 5% believe anyone should use it.
Many on BP, as its called commonly, are younger so some of the responses come from those too young to recall the Civil Rights movement, the active segregation that existed before it, or the confrontations and struggles that occurred immediately afterwards. They only have a point of view from the benefits that have come from those times. In the FX network cable program Black. White., the son Nick commented how he believed that racism is a thing of the past. In my experiences around the country, many of those in their 20's and younger say the same thing. And yet we still have the Amidou Diallo/Rodney King problems. We only recently have had actors win an Oscar award (for best actor/actress) though it can be argued several in the past deserved them. The events in New Orleans continue to show disparity and preferential treatment.
In music, music videos, movies and conversations on the streets this term flourishes. And considering words are power its strength grows. I just can’t stand that some must laugh; that a term so inflammatory as to be a valid defense for assaulting someone just years ago is now a tool in generating immense income streams. That 21% of respondents cannot understand its past, or current power, dumbfounds me. That 49% think that any derivation of the term is acceptable appals me. And if you think it shouldn’t, see the reaction if you make a movie or song declaring the value of being a ‘cracker/spic/mic’ drug dealing criminal that abuses women and abandons his children. Basically the image many rappers portray today, and sing about. I doubt it will get the same reaction. If you don’t get the same reaction ask why. Then say that things are completely equal today.

Mencia, Outkast and Leary
Well there is some great news out there. Several actors and production crews have received confirmations about their shows. Of particular interest is the announcement that Mr. Carlos Mencia is going to get a 3rd season for his show. If you have not seen Mind of Mencia, on Comedy Central, I strongly suggest it. Something you should keep in mind is that he doesn’t hold punches. It’s a great thing in that he points out the failures in all peoples and cultures equally. And he is funny. I liken his humor to that of a Mr. George Carlin. Direct social commentary, that you can’t help liking. If you have a PC personality you won’t like him, everyone else should. His video making fun of kayne west was fantastic. And if you have the chance see his uncut standup special its worth the time. He is on the mark as he goes from Catholics, Black African Americans, Mexicans, the handicapped and more. It’s not a Mr. Andrew Dice Clay type of show, it’s not Mr. Eddie Murphy, it’s unique.
Another great cable network program that is getting another season is the FX show Rescue Me. Mr. Denis Leary has done a phenomenal job in his portrayal of a firefighter that survived 9/11, but still carries scars from it. And those scars have grown as he has lost others while fighting fires and his own personal demons. It’s a great look at the frailties of human beings that deal with incredible stresses. It’s a strong cast and very-well written. Definitely not for the kids. And Mr. Leary has done well enough that besides getting a 4th season, he has received an Emmy nomination. Watch the cable program once and you will see why.
On the movie front the movie Idlewild, featuring Outkast, should be out soon. I’m looking forward to this 1930's era musical. First it’s not in the normal here comes a song out of nowhere format. I tend to hate that format. Secondly all the music has been created by Outkast, and has been styled to the time period. Mr. Andre Benjamin, Andre 3000, and Mr. Antwan Patton, Big Boi, are both very creative and successful in substantivally different styles. The fact that some music will be a homage to styles and greats like Mr. Cab Calloway intrigues me. It’s also a positive that Mr. Benjamin has had movie experience, and did reasonably well in Four Brothers.
On a side note, I find it interesting how so much is rumored about the breakup of Outkast. So many find it difficult to accept that these 2 friends can have different expressions and yet work together. Friends of 20 years (I think that is correct) are not limited by the growth each achieves. They have stated, and I believe them, that they were friends first and still are. They are involved in each others family and life. Given that the reasons most musical entertainment groups end do not apply. In my own life I have 3 friends I have known for 30+ years. We are all very different in our expression and somewhat so in our views. We live some distance from each other, and do not speak on a regular basis all the time. Yet there is no question that in a moments notice any of us would give our life for the other. There has never been a time where any request from one would not be answered. And we have worked together on various projects, each contributing his own talents. Based on that I see no reason why Outkast would not continue to work together.
But back to the news at hand. Not everyone is doing well. Mr. Justin Timberlake’s movie career took another hit. Even though he was teamed with the renown Mr. Morgan Freeman, and Mr. Kevin Spacey the movie Edison Force went straight to DVD. The fact that Mr. Cary Elwes and Mr. Dylan McDermott were also in the film still could not help it. Given the horrendous review of Southland Tales, I think Mr. Timberlake should stick with his day job.

Who gets the Golden Ball and get your poker on
Now there is gambling, there’s gambling on not getting caught and there is gambling on the internet. What could I mean? Well if you like to gamble, and you prefer your computer to the lights of Vegas or pissed about Atlantic City then you have a situation. Legislation has just been passed to prohibit credit cards from being used to pay for online gambling. In addition law enforcement can now get internet providers to block access. It’s a one-two hit to this industry. At $12 billion a year it’s a nice business, or at least it was. And the good part was that if you were an owner going to the bank to check the books often meant a trip to the Carribean if not further.
I can’t imagine how pissed all the future professional poker players out there feel about this new law. I for one could not imagine gambling where I can’t see what is happening. Call me crazy, but I tend to think being in person cuts down on the chances for the house, or anyone else, to cheat me. Considering the various viruses and spyware out there, and the fact that most of these companies are overseas because they were trying to circumvent the U.S. laws and taxes my confidence was always low. But all is not lost. You can still do the state lotteries, and horse racing.
The thing that bugs me though is that supporters are touting how this law passed, at least in part, because Mr. Jack Abramoff worked for the lobby that defeated a similar bill in 2000. Laws should never be passed because of short term political events. And denying the public of a passive past time should be based on a real issue.
But perhaps an online bet is better than the bet made by Zidane. By now many should know that Zidane was ejected from the World Cup final. You may also know that he was the player who won the Golden Ball. The Golden Ball is the MVP of the entire World Cup competition. It’s a big deal, like being the player of the world for 4 years. It’s an honor. And Zidane doesn’t deserve it.
It doesn’t matter what his reasoning is. No matter what words he may have been called. It’s no shock that players trade insults at times during a match. Whether they are upset or just trying to rattle an opposing player hoping for an opportunity it happens and its no different that in any other sport. Football linebackers make comments before the snap, catchers in baseball say things before a pitch. At the end though its just words. And in an atmosphere, where the pressure is on and the world is watching you don’t lose your temper. Perhaps I’d be more forgiving to a young player that had never been to the World Cup. Zidane is not that. And as a comparison imagine that it’s the Superbowl, before the snap and a quarterback walks up to the opposing line and kicks a player in the face. Does that player deserve the MVP if his team wins? I think not. It’s pretty straight forward. Unless you live in France of course.
And as for those that don’t follow the game, here are some responses on what others commented about the game. [You may want to see the link to get what I am commenting on] The fact that there are no timeouts means the players have to think on their feet. The coach can and does still give input from the sidelines, but the bulk of his strategy is before the game at halftime and in the substitutions (which are all vital points in the game). The changes in strategy are the reason why the most experienced players are captains. There is no need for another long series as teams play for 4 years to qualify and then play for a month to see who is best. To be in the competition is enough to say they are one of the best. There are 5 referees, the head being the one among the players. The game is important because it is the ONLY world sport. Americans are apathetic because they don’t get to see games often. The rules are basically straight forward. If you can figure out all the penalties that are in American football you can get soccer’s rules. There are no Michael Jordan’s of American soccer because there isn’t. Maybe if the nation supports the game there may be, until then Pele is it.
Well there you go. Now I’m just waiting for American football season to start. Go Giants!

Sony PSP insult and television ad ratings
Have you noticed the increase in advertising on television? To be more exact, the increase in product placements actively in actual television programs. Prominent shots of cola drinks, cars, websites and more are appearing more and more often. One noted example was the Coca cola drinks that the American Idol judges use. Not that most of this is something most Americans has noticed yet. Or at least it hasn’t been obvious and annoying yet.
Not to worry, Neilsen, which does the tv rating system, is going to start keeping records of the ratings on ads. Most expect that rates will drop significantly during commercials. That means less money for the networks, as who would want to pay top dollar to reach fewer people. To make up for that, inclusion of ads in programs, the internet and movies seems probable. I already hate pop-up ads, and I would love the person that approved ads in movie theaters to have to be subjected to just watching those ads for a year straight. Now we get to have actors on our favorite shows hawking DVD’s, cars, and whatever as they go. I’m really looking forward to watching Grissom walk up to a crime scene with Katherine and Warwick and they all are chugging some pop drink, which will get a close-up just so you know what it is. Who knows what else will get in there. And who knows where else they will put ads to try to catch your attention. But we will see what will happen after the ratings start to come out. You’ve been warned.
And yes I know, I have some on my site too. Self-advertising as it is I do try to keep it relatively subtle and unobtrusive. I don’t throw useless ads in the middle of the text. Or have pop-up ads. I’m not against advertising, things need to be paid for and profit is why there are businesses. But I do not like when the advertising takes away from the medium, from the entertainment itself.
Speaking of ads, I missed a massive controversy. A billboard ad in the Netherlands, made by Sony to promote its PSP. It seems that there is a new line of PSP coming out that will feature a white cover as opposed to the current black one. To promote this a series of billboards were placed, featuring a white woman and a black woman (both are dressed in clothing of matching color to their skin). In one of the ads, the white woman is seen aggressively holding the face of the black woman. Now it does sound bad, and were this the U.S. it would have sparked an outrage. In the Netherlands, which does have race issues though not quite like here, it raised little attention (according to Sony) but due to the internet it created international debate. It included a California assemblyman, Sojourn to the Past, and the NAACP.
I have found a few places where there has been debate. And some of the comments should be addressed. First I should mention that Sony has now pulled the billboard ads. Things I would further point out is that this is one ad in a series (I have not seen what the other ads look like), the woman may or may not be African and or American there is no obvious indication either way. And as one comment mentioned, it does seem that the cross is upside-down (I have seen no comments about that beyond the one statement). And we should recall that it is not in the U.S. and ads in Europe tend to be more bold than here.
Given these facts I do not like this billboard. I find it offensive. I do not see the symbolism that is being attempted by Sony, and no configuration of these 2 women makes me see it. Yes the U.S. is more sensitive to such depictions, but the world is very small, the internet makes it moreso. And racism, subtle or not exists in the world. Whether its hatred of a religion, or color or nationality it exists across the planet and no wishes to the contrary will change that. This billboard offends religion and color in my opinion. If the roles were reversed, as it’s claimed some billboards do portray, it is still racist. I do not condone accusations against the models. There is no way for them to know exactly how the work they did would be finalized and envisioned.
And I often wonder if the people who claim that racism/sexism etc. does not exist have ever felt its negative effects. Do they even live in the same world I do. Do they recall the anger express throughout this nation against ALL Muslims in this nation after 9/11. That Muslims were attacked without cause. Or attacks on gays. How about church burnings in the south? Or the reason for 9/11 itself? Do you get my point.
While it is 2006, various people across the world are not equal. Ask Moroccans in France, or Jamaicans in England, or Chinese in Japan if they feel some inequality. It’s not just an American thing. To realize that is actually the first step in removing it. And I don’t feel pointing out these facts is PC. To be politically correct is to hold back comments or restrict thoughts for fear of offending someone. To bring attention to a perceived inequity in an intelligent manner creates debate and thus conversation and knowledge. That kills racism or sexism and it’s ilk. To not say these things is PC and that creates problems. It makes a vacuum of knowledge that ignorance can reside in. That is dangerous.
My views hopefully create a forum for debate. I do not hold back, and I am open to debate because as a human being, that happens to be a Puerto Rican Black African American, I could be wrong in the opinion I hold. Any forum that allows for intelligent debate is not PC, to me, and should be encouraged. I’m a bit off topic but besides this billboard, some other comments lead me to discuss the PC thing.
This is what I think, what do you think?
From Larwernce Fishburne to Jackie Chan to Syd Barrett in 24 hours
Alot’s happened in the last 24. And this badly done pun refers to more than just the television show. But since I have thought this up I may as well explain why. The sixth season of the drama is about to start and besides Mr. Keifer Sutherland (a great actor I think) there will be a new cast member. Mr. Peter MacNicol will be doing something that few actors get to do. He will appear as a regular on both Numbers and 24. Now I like Mr. MacNicol and his work.
Let me digress a bit. I saw 5 episodes of Ally McBeal. Can’t expect too much more than that when its up against Monday Night Football. But I did like the ‘biscuit’ and Fish characters. Lin was great too :) And why would anyone want Ally with Lisa Nicole Carson or the blondes on the show around? Enough of that.
As I was saying I like his work. I love his work as X on Harvey Birdman. [Cartoon Network Adult Swim, if you haven’t seen it you should] It makes me wonder though that all his work that I’ve seen contains a cheerful aspect to the characters. I think the man may be an innately joyful person. How his character on 24 will be done is an interesting question. Considering the tone of the show I really want to see what he will do. Plus 24 is well done anyway.
For another surprise, there’s news that Mr. Jackie Chan had quite the drunken episode. Considering how well mannered and even tempered he is known to be it is shocking to hear that he jumped up on a stage and took over a show of a singer. And that he hurled insults at the crowd that attempted to boo him off the stage. He’s not know for this kind of behavior. And at 52 it is shocking behavior. Of course I would want to be the guy that had to get him off the stage. I have no doubt that even with his age, If Mr. Jackie Chan wanted to kick 2 or 3 guys ass he easily could. Probably worse than he would intend if he was drunk. I mean the man has mastered EVERY martial art. What is stage security supposed to do? I feel for them on that decision.
What might you think Apocalypse Now, Malcolm X, Broadway and Tony awards all have in common? If you can get that you are better than me. What I’m referencing is the fact the Mr. Lawrence Fishburne and Mrs. Angela Basset will be appearing in a play together. The play is Fences, which has won a Tony award [so has Mr. Fishburne] and discusses the life of a former Negro League baseball player. Both entertainers have performed together, notably in What’s Love Got To Do With It and Boyz ‘N the Hood. Considering their talents I think this will be quite the play. The subject matter is also compelling, it’s a piece of Black African American history that doesn’t get discussed often [I’m shocked]. Keep an eye out for that, if it hits Broadway with them I’m going to go see it.
Some sad news too. Mr. Syd Barrett passed away recently. If you are unfamiliar with him, he was one of the forming members of Pink Floyd. He was responsible for some great albums, and artists such as Mr. David Bowie, Mr. Paul McCartney, Mr. Pete Townsend were all fans of his music. Bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., and Phish have all done covers of Mr. Barrett’s work. The album Wish You Were Here was a dedication to Mr. Barrett, as is the song Shine On You Crazy Diamond [a personal favorite]. Even the character Pink, from the movie The Wall, played by Sir Bob Geldof has scenes referring to Mr. Barrett. If you aren’t familiar I suggest checking out the music. There is a reason why he was such an inspiration.
Oh, as a side note, I may have a surprise soon. It deals with writer RM Johnson.

Reflections on World Cup 2006
In reflecting on the Wold Cup in the last month, I must say I am glad I don’t need to see the commercial with Jose any more. It was a cute commercial, 2 kids imagining that they are playing soccer (futbol) with the greats of the game. I love the CGI and editing used to get images of Beckinbauer in his youth. A real nice touch. I wish they had included images of Pele, Maridona, Reynaldo and Ronaldinho. But it was still quite good. That is until it was on 2x or more in every pre-game and half-time commercial spot. I cannot imagine why, for a month long contest that is viewed by the world en masse, that at least one or 2 more commercials for the U.S. could not be made. If any series of commercial spots could be worth it, this is it. Comparisons to the Superbowl advertising are not applicable. The quality was not there, nor the diversity.
And I found it quite amusing, how the Man of the Match was up for grabs in an American Idol-esque format. And the selection was consistently limited to a group of players that I normal found to not be worth the title. But such was the attempt to draw American fans. Ill fated attempts I think.
Overall there was nothing to really draw American fans. The commentators tried their best, but were hardly up to the task. Initial games were horrendous. Constant gaffs in what nation was playing, which players were on the field, and mistakes in stats were complimented by on screen statistics the obscured game play, and were inaccurate. While these initial mistakes were corrected, well some of them were, for those that were unfamiliar with the game I’m sure it was confusing and annoying. I particularly found the constant references to every sport, except futbol, useless. I think the only thing that matches were not compared to was golf and perhaps bowling. But I may have missed one or two of them. And in most cases the references fell flat or failed to describe the action well. Of course this was better than what has been the experience in the past.
Soccer in the U.S. will grow. Perhaps the inclusion of Reynaldo, or another well respected and famous player, in the MLS league will spark more European players to come to the U.S. It would also raise the bar on the level of play our home team has. That would definitely be worthwhile. And it’s just a matter of time before it happens. And unlike Pele in the Cosmos back in the 70's, the American soccer program is far stronger and diverse. Bringing superstar entertainers now will take hold and speed the interest in the country. We can be one of the best in the world, and anything that helps that along is worth it.
Of course it would have been nice if ESPN could have shown a bit more respect. Showing the national anthems of the various nations should not be a request. It helps create the atmosphere of unity the game brings. And other nations should do the same for when our anthem is played. You wouldn’t expect the anthems being played during the Olympics to get cut off, this is no different.
But we have 4 years to improve. And I think that along with respect for the game, our ability to play will improve. I’d love to see a U.S. team make it to the quarter finals, but I’d settle for a well played, well managed run to the round of 16. It may shock the world but we can definitely do it. And I’d love to see the faces, and words of commentators if we did go to the quarterfinals.

Italy over France!!!
That was exciting. This World Cup had quite the finish. Italy vs. France. An early score on a penalty kick that should have never happened. A great header as a response. Each team dominating one half the match. Then a red card, for a flagrant and pointless act. Yes we had a bit of everything. Even penalty kicks for the win. And for me the best part is that Italy won.
I’m no fan of France, but I will say that they definitely brought their A game to the match. They got lucky on a call for the early score. There was no foul, and were there contact I doubt if it would have been worth a penalty kick. France tried to keep the ball and attack the whole 2nd half. Yet they could not capitalize on this or other opportunities.
The biggest mar for France was the ridiculous actions of Zidane. A headbutt is no response to the exchange of words that was going on. A mature and experienced player knows that in the finals, and in overtime, some things just should not be done. I don’t feel bad for Zidane in being ejected. Nor does the fact that his moment, retiring after having made it to the finals again, actually ends on his ejection and his nation’s loss. Not exactly a feather in your cap and I’m sure it feels a bit bitter in the mouth, but that’s what he did to himself. And retiring after the [I would expect at least 2 games restriction due to the flagrant nature of the head-butt] suspension is anti-climatic. I don’t know that France would have played any better, nor would they have won, but Zidane can’t know that they wouldn’t have.
Italy did rather well. After some early confusion they took a strong possession of the ball and scored. Where Totti was during this I don’t know. Caramanesi was all over the ball, as was Pirlo. The header off the corner kick was excellent. A real picture perfect execution. The removal of Totti in the 2nd half made all the sense in the world, but if he had done something - some effort - then Italy would have had one more substitute, possible making all the difference in the overtime effort. Actually if Totti put the effort in then it might not have needed to go that long. Perhaps he was hurt, like Vieria, but I was unaware of it. American announcers may not be very good (to say the least) but they can let me know when a player is injured. Beyond that, and a great effort on the second goal [I thought it was on-side, but I was a bit inebriated during the replays after the match] that would not count, there isn’t much to say. Other that hello to the new number one in the world. [doesn’t hurt that I won a couple of small bets too]
And as for Germany which takes 3rd in this World Cup, I think the coach did a great job. They played quite well. And the nay-sayers should keep an eye out there, this is a team that can go the distance. I may have got it wrong at the start of this Cup, but the fact they finished 3rd isn’t that far off. And my thoughts on what happened are already known.
I’m already planning for the next Cup. With all good timing I will be able to be at the games. Now that would be grand. Any suggestions on how I get a month off? Business is good and side projects don’t hurt, but 30 days is quite a lot. Especially away from home. This assumes that by that time my main work continues to grow and expand. It does not factor if I hire a staff, or if these blogs become more successful and sales of the various inscribed goods (like the polo shirts, the ladies journal, the baseball cap - yes a shameless plug) pick up. Even so, how do you plan it out? I don’t even know how to plan a vacation. [I may take one of those this year, should be interesting] Well let me know.

The Chappelle Show without Dave Chappelle
So the 3rd season of the Chappelle Show is about to appear on Comedy Central. Of the 10 episodes for the season, only 3 are available. And once again all the drama of what Mr. Dave Chappelle did or didn’t do is abounding. Comedy Central is trying to move past the hoopla, while simultaneously courting Mr. Chappelle and rebuking his claims. According to mainstream media there just isn’t any reason known why he left.
Of course in this instance the media is trying to slide past the fact that Mr. Chappelle has in fact stated his reasons. He made some observations when he appeared on Oprah, and point blank made statements about the entire situation on The Actor’s Studio. I was awed to an extent by the honesty and intensity of that conversation. It affected how I make posts on this site. You can see my full comments at What Dave Chappelle and James Lipton gave me. Suffice to say the ultimate reason given by Mr. Chappelle was that $50 million was still too cheap for soul. Creatively or otherwise. I don’t think anyone watching this would have a problem coming to that conclusion.
Well, except the media and Comedy Central. Both seem to be lost on what motivated the abrupt end to the taping of cable television show. I for one stand by the answers provided by the man himself. He made a great observation on how the Hollywood system tries the integrity and soul of the entertainers in it. How many entertainers, in various genres, have been known to suddenly act in an aberrant and/or illogical manner because of the pressure. I would truely have been sad if Mr. Chappelle had reacted as Mr. Freddy Prinze did. And how many more have been chewed up and spit out. I recall a movie starring Ms. Angelina Jolie as the supermodel Gia.
I’ve said it before, go to the source. There was no mental instability. There was no drug induced flight. Perhaps many people think the amount of money offered was enough. I have dealt with many people of considerable wealth. Several were worth the same, or more, than the contract Mr. Chappelle received. Wealth of such an extreme amount does not bring happiness, not if it has ties to unhappiness like stress or restrictions in life. Many of the problems the average person has are the same as those of the wealth. And often there are new problems too. Entertainers have the added pressure of loss of annonimity, limited expression - especially in their art [typecasting which I have been guilty of doing from time to time], extreme expectations, constant judgements and heightened fear for the well-being of their families.
Yes, part of the job is dealing with those factors. Such is the nature of the world today. But when someone says that it isn’t worth it anymore, I understand. When I first started working as a stockbroker I observed that after roughly a decade every broker I knew had a physical or mental ailment/addiction. I decided then that my health and well-being is worth more than the money. About 10 years later I had to make that choice, and thus I now work in a related field. I didn’t have the pressure Mr. Chappelle had, but I understand it. I didn’t make what Mr. Chappelle could, but I earned substantial amounts. And if the amount was 10x as much I still would have done the same thing. My principles and health cannot be bought. Neither could Dave Chappelle’s. Consider that the next time the media, or a cable television network, says they are lost as to why someone makes a decision they don’t like.

Slow day in entertainment
It seems that there are many feeling disappointment right now. And for far disparate reasons. While I can’t seem to have any favored team reach the finals for the World Cup, thankfully only losing a few dollars in friendly bets, there are no bets in Atlantic City.
Yes Italy vs. France is set for Sunday. It should be quite the match. I will admit that Zidane has stepped up and brought his team with him. Italy is feeling a surge of pride and confidence. I’m sure you can guess who I think will win, but since my recent declarations have all failed I won’t jinx my team. They may not be my top pick, but a solid team and I think favored to win.
This has been a surprising World Cup. Favorites have dropped away and effort by new countries have been inspiring. Many teams have failed to live up to hype, and the FIFA rankings are proven to be the least useful tool in some time. Several referees will hopefully never appear in international games again. And I think most every fan of any nation has at least 1 call they find controversial. For the USA and its fans, I think there were at least 4 or 5 that were critical and absurd calls. Perhaps FIFA will learn from this and make improvements. Like allowing 1 substitute for overtime, or letting the referees speak to player before throwing out cards. Simple thinks but they are needed I think.
The answer for Atlantic City is trickier though. If you are unaware, especially if you are planning to make a trip to gamble, all the casinos are currently shutdown. It’s not some new law or the casinos giving a break to gamblers. Because of the inability of New Jersey’s state government to balance the budget, the casinos must be closed. A solution to raise the average taxes paid annually by $275 per person failed to be passed and now costs the state $1.3 million a day. Not including loss of casino workers pay, business losses, visitors to the city and state, transportation and more.
The big thing is of course the gambling. During the summer season. It pisses me off, I wanted to take a trip out there. The city itself can be fun, I know a few nice bars there. [I lived in Atlantic City for a while back in my 20's] Food is cheap, mostly and a lot of the people are nice. But 2 blocks of the strip and you immediately realize that the city is dead poor. With out the casinos there is nothing. I would not be surprised if right now there is a mass depression in the city.
As bets go, this is a bad one. No one is happy, except perhaps Las Vegas. That is another great city, lots of fun. They even had a craps table for .25 cents, and prime rib steak for about $5. If you read this in NJ, do me and the people in A.C. a favor. Get in touch with the legislature and have them act. Open the casinos. If you do you can try and take my don’t 10 bet.
I went a bit off topic, but nothing much is going on and why not.

I got it wrong, Jill Scott joins the cause, and Annie Lennox's degree
Ok, I was wrong. It happens. Germany lost to Italy, 2-0. Am I surprised, yes. And Italy worked for it. The defense of both teams was sharper than expected. And Germany should thank the post and crossbar, or the game would have been over sooner and with the same score. I can only hope that France losses to Portugal. I think that would be a great game, Italy vs. Portugal. I think Portugal would play their hearts out, as it would be their first finals. Well we will see.
And its nice to see a referee that can officiate a game well. A rare treat lately. FIFA needs to have more referees like the one in this match. And it was an impressive win, the first goal is really the one that did it. I think if it happened sooner in the overtime Germany might have rallied. I don’t think there would have been a second goal. But with 2 minutes before penalty kicks, and with coaches and players preparing for that, the run by Italy devastated the German players spirit in the field. Having played over 120 minutes, including stoppage time, there was no undeserved win here. It was well played by both sides and both can hold their heads high and proud.
Something else of interest is what I read about Ms. Jill Scott. Ms. Scott, along with several others spoke on the ills of the current portrayal of Black African American women in music videos today. I have mentioned before how I disagree with the direction that has been the norm for some time now. It’s nice to see entertainers (especially those that are Black African American) take a stand and make a call for change. To the ladies out there, who wish to be one of those music video girls, read Confessions of a Video Vixen. To the men, imagine your daughter or mother or sister (better yet all of them) as one of these women. Worse yet imagine that other men, many of whom have grown up watching images like this all their lives, will treat them just like the music videos displays them. I for one am disquieted by such a thought. Yet another way to view this occurrence, which may make this hit home, imagine all the rappers and men in these videos are white. Does the video feel as fun and interesting? (Funny though, it really shouldn’t make a difference, but I bet to a few people out there it does)
And I’d like to congratulate Mrs. Annie Lennox on her honorary degree. I have been a fan of her’s since the first album of the Eurythmics. Yes I have a few years on me. She has a powerful voice, and her look at the time really caught your attention. Her choice of songs and the music accompaniment were a fantastic combination. If it was true that she originally was going to be an opera singer (but as I heard it was too thin) it was opera’s loss and definitely pop/rock’s gain. Enjoy your honorary degree. And if you haven't heard Here Comes The Rain Again, go look it up. You might thank me.

Brazil, Pirates and Denzel's secret
Well I was not pleased with the Brazil vs. France game. Like far too many I expected a relatively easy win for Brazil. It definitely wasn’t that. I’m not sure who France was playing but I don’t think it was Brazil. There was no zip to the game, well not until about the 75th minute. Control of the ball seemed decidedly to be in the hands of the French. And I don’t even want to speak about the passing.
Zidane had a good game, and that’s great for him. But France just has not struck me as that strong a team. Sure Brazil took them for granted. Even so there is no excuse for the virtual shutout of shots on goal. Brazil went from an average of 9 shots per half I think, and about 24 in the previous match to I think it was 3. That is insane.
Rhonadinho, who I consider on of the best ball handlers in the world was stripped virtually every time he had the ball. Roberto Carlos, Cafu and Kaka couldn’t make a pass more than 10 yards. No one had any good touches on the ball. And Reynaldo, who was normally double teamed, was ineffective. I can understand that it could be a bad day, that some of the players could be off. But the entire team and the substitutes? With a team of this caliber? Brazil had 12 straight unbeaten games in the World Cup, and then this? I don’t think so. France didn’t out play them, Brazil wasn’t playing. I’ve heard rumors that France paid for their win in France, if that were true I’d say it happened again. I can’t understand another reason why everyone was this bad.
On a consoling thought Germany advanced. As my readers know I did pick them to win the Cup. With England out, and a win by Portugal (yes I expect France to lose) the big question is Italy. While not the most stunning team this Cup they are strong and consistent. It will be a tough game for Germany. The interesting part will be the score I think. Neither has a great backfield, so it will be a competition between goalies. The winner of this match will probably take the Cup. Again I say it’s Germany.
In other thoughts, I can’t wait to see the next movie directed by Mr. Denzel Washington. While there is no word on the style of movie, I’m guessing it will have a decent amount of action. The reason is Mr. Peter Jackson is being sought for the special effects. Considering the work of Mr. Jackson on the Lord of the Rings and King Kong movies, Mr. Washington must have something quite unique in mind. I’m hoping for something of a more Sci-fi bent myself, it is a favorite of mine. We shall see, I’m sure more will leak out as it moves forward.
Another movie I am looking forward to see is the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I’m eager enough that I will see it alone. [The fun life of a single guy, lol] Mr. Johnny Depp is a great actor and his Captain Jack Sparrow is one of his best. The entire cast and crew made the first film stunning, no matter the hype I think this will be a great film. Considering Mr. Depp is known to only do films he personally believes in, one would expect the script was strong. Mr. Orlando Bloom and Ms. Keira Knightley are no slouches either. Of course the big question is ‘what is in the locker’, Davey Jones locker to be exact. And how did Jack get in there in the first place. Quite the pirate that man. Watch out for your rum.
