In recent events a few things have been interesting. One thing I noticed is that Ms. Janet Jackson has given her fans a chance to create the cover of her next album 20 Years Old. Ms. Jackson has made available 33 images and will pick 4 finalists. This is a great opportunity for any up and coming artist or even just a fan of Ms. Jackson. Were I more artistic I’d definitely give it a go. I can only imagine what visions may be made, and with Ms. Jackson picking finalists we can be somewhat sure that an artistic vision will be the cover as opposed to some corporate ideal.
Moving from albums to movies, Mr. Ryan Reynolds has accepted a role in the upcoming movie Definitely, Maybe. I’m looking forward to the movie as I think Mr. Reynolds is a very talented actor. In terms of comedy he is quite funny, especially the movie National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. Not a deep movie, but fun and the creme-filled donuts scene is simultaneously violently sickening and incredibly hilarious. One of those moments so rude and funny you just can’t stop watching. His work in Blade 3, was solid and credible. And if you get lucky you can see reruns of his television show 2 Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Shop. I’m a fan, and he has done other work, but I think if you see the above you will be a fan as well.
There has been other movie news that I’m looking forward to. Mr. Kurt Russell, of The Strongest Teenager in the World fame (those who are younger will recall his work in Escape from New York or 3000 Miles to Graceland more readily) will be working on the next film by noted director Mr. Quentin Tarantino. The film itself is something to look out for as its 2 movies in on. An entire film by Mr. Robert Rodriguez (of the films Spy Kids, From Dusk Til Dawn and Sin City) will be combined with a complete one by Mr. Tarantino. Considering the visionary scope and uniqueness of both director’s films it should be quite the experience. The addition of the versatile and capable Mr. Russell definitely cranks up my anticipation a notch. Fans of Ms. Rosario Dawson, Mr. Michael Biehn (Terminator), Mr. Jeff Fahey and Ms. Rose McGowen should also be looking for this release.
Another actor that is in the news is Mr. Matthew McConaughey. I’ve mentioned before that I love it when entertainers stand up and do something without benefit for themselves. I’ve talked about Mr. George Clooney, and Mr. Samuel Jackson previously and I think what Mr. McConaughey is doing is just as vital. It seems that Mr. McConaughey owned a 1971 Corvette Stingray that he put quite a few miles on, and was important enough to name (Mako). To help those suffering not only from Hurricane Katrina but also Hurricane Rita, he has placed the vehicle on Ebay. The proceeds going to Oprah’s Angel Network. While the money and the car are both solid statements of his convictions, I find the personal nature of his choice to be the biggest statement. To give something that has personal meaning for the benefit of others is admirable. And hopefully it will inspire others to help those in need.
This is what I think, what do you think?
