Headline Review
Here is a new feature that I will be trying for a while. Let me know what you think.
Oh, keep an eye out for a press release from M V Consulting, Inc. next week.
If I may say my piece on the Hey Hey it's Saturday incident. It isn't as much a intolerant attitude toward people of dark skin but a cultural divide and a lack of understanding there of. The minstrel acts never happened here so you'll be hard pressed finding people who understand the connotations of it and lastly one of the people in the "black face" had dark skin. You seem like a smart enough person to in context understand how it wasn't intended to be racist at all.
I beg to differ. I believe that any culture in which part of the people are denigrated against because of the color of their skin is intolerant and wrong. It is also an obvious example of lack of understanding as well as compassion.
The minstrel act is ongoing in Australia, as this group did the same exact act 20 years ago, much to the enjoyment of the audience both times. It may not be called the minstrel show, but its the same no matter what name it is given.
And when you say the person had dark skin, do you mean they were Black? Aborigine? Or do you mean they were say Italian or such. The difference is vast and not similar. Even in Australia I would bet.
Yes I am smart enough to understand the context, thank you. At the same time I am smart enough not to excuse this. Denigrating a people due to a bias that is accepted does not make it right. Just as Australians are not fond of their prisoner ancestry, or remakes that use such in jest, it is the same thing.
The first step in ending racisim is seeing it for what it is. Trust that those being discriminated against recognize it. It is the people that are not the subject of that discrimination and prejudice that fail to see.
